Today is the last day of my three weeks of keto. I ran another brick today; just over 15 miles of biking followed by a bit under 3 miles of running. Both were with a friend of mine. The biking went reasonable well, given the condition of my bike versus his. But the run was an exercise in pain. I ran at a pace barely above a brisk walk. I did manage to complete the entire session without fuel of any kind. Given my blood chemistry over the previous days, the evidence is clear; I can run a brick, however slowly, based on burning fat alone as an energy source.
That being said, I'm not sorry that I will be able to consume a wider variety of foods tomorrow. I plan on making bacon, egg, and onion breakfast burritos. I'll go to the grocery store and buy potatoes and probably gelato. I'll enjoy milk chocolate. But I will also keep emptying my fridge and freezer. I'm already seeing large cargo vans coming up for sale for not a lot of money, and the next few months may provide an opportunity to give van life a shot. If I do move into a van more or less full time, I'll almost definitely be selling my current home (a large boat). But I may get a much smaller boat. It could serve very well for short recreational jaunts out into the water, as secondary storage, as a place to sleep when guests come (or for guests to sleep), etc. It would even give me parking rights at my marina, and therefore a place to park my van, if no other place was available. Really, that was one of the biggest obstacles to the whole vandwelling idea; where to park.
